I’ve heard something similar to rowena’s comment about pantsers and re-writing. I do think too much plotting can stifle the spontaneity of a story, but too much pantsing results in too many loose ends! i like to use a mixture of the two – plot out absolutely major, non-negotiable plot points, and then just pants away in between.
